At 35, Abby was told she’d never run again.
A knee injury from a car accident left her limping and discouraged. “Be happy if you can walk without pain,” her doctor said.
And for a while, she accepted that.
But something inside her never did.
She began walking around her block, just five minutes a day. Then ten. Then a slow jog. She tracked every step in a notebook, setting tiny goals. Her first mile took 17 minutes. Her knees ached, but her heart was soaring.
By her 38th birthday, Abby ran her first 5K. The crowd’s cheers, her flushed face, her tears at the finish line—she was hooked. A year later, she crossed a half-marathon. Then a full one.

Now, at 42, she’s run 15 marathons—and just became a pace runner for a women’s charity race. She motivates others while keeping them on time.
She journals each run and shares her journey on a small blog that’s inspired thousands. Her message: “You’re stronger than you think. You don’t need to win—just keep showing up.”
