During renovations in an old Chicago apartment, a worker discovered a crumpled paper inside the wall.
It was a letter from 1965, written by a 17-year-old girl named Mary to her “future self.”
She wrote about her dreams of becoming a ballerina, her fear of war, and how she hoped someone out there loved her.
The crew posted the letter online. Within a week, they found Mary—now 77 and living in Arizona.
She read the letter through tears. “I forgot this version of myself existed,” she said.
A forgotten message from the past brought an entire community together—and reminded Mary of who she once was.
