Mysterious Spiral Appears During Perseid Meteor Shower

In August 2025, skywatchers across more than ten U.S. states witnessed a breathtaking but puzzling sight during the annual Perseid meteor shower.

Alongside the shooting stars, a glowing spiral slowly unfolded in the night sky, resembling a giant whirlpool of light. The formation began as a faint dot before expanding into a wide, luminous swirl that lasted nearly ten minutes.

While some viewers speculated about UFOs, experts suggested a more grounded explanation: the spiral was likely created by frozen fuel crystals released from a spacecraft.

As the rocket spun in orbit, the crystals reflected sunlight, forming the spiral pattern visible from Earth.

Although scientists have not confirmed which launch was responsible, the phenomenon demonstrates how space activity can unexpectedly create dazzling shows for people on the ground. The unusual sight added an extra layer of wonder to one of the year’s most famous meteor showers.
