The famous Colombian singer Shakira might face an eight-year jail sentence

According to Spanish news agencies, Colombian singer Shakira might face eight years in jail . She is supposedly embroiled in a tax fraud case.

The hitmaker is apparently implicated in a €14.5 million tax fraud case that might result in jail time and a heavy fine.

The Spanish daily El Pais claimed that Shakira is implicated in the fraud case and that authorities working on it have recommended that she be fined €23 million (£19.3 million) as well as sentenced to jail.

According to the magazine, the prosecutor’s office has requested an eight-year jail term for the singer for the six offenses she all.egedly committed against the public treasury.

The  singer is facing up to eight years in jail and a fine for alleged tax evasion between 2012 and 2014.

According to Reuters, the singer is accused of failing to pay taxes in the country during those years, despite the fact that Shakira claims she was in the Bahamas and did not live in Spain at the time.

Shakira, whose full name is Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, also claims not to have spent more than 183 days a year in Spain, which is required to be deemed a tax resident.

In addition to the above, she has been accused of “concealing” her money and utilizing “tax havens,” which Shakira rejects and insists she is innocent of.

She is alleged to be pursuing a complete acquittal on all charges against her, and she recently reportedly turned down a request from the prosecutor’s office to settle and end the issue for good.

The offer was declined because Shakira is eager to clear her reputation and prove her innocence in court.
