When the guy brings his fiancée to the grandma, she falls on her knees and begs forgiveness from her

Gracie Burton traveled to Orlando to visit her fiancé, Mark, who had relocated there a few months before. Her whole life was turned upside down when she arrived at the airport and saw Mark with an older lady. Gracie had no idea karma would be so cruel to her.

“Ladies and gentlemen, please take your seats.” “Our aircraft is ready for takeoff,” Gracie heard one of the flight attendants say over the PA system, so she adjusted her seatbelt and considered putting on her headphones. But, she was stopped by the elderly woman seated next to her.

“Aren’t departures typically the worst part of a flight?” The woman said, her gaze fixed on Gracie, anticipating a response.

“Yeah, they may be intimidating at first,” she answered, nodding her head and nervously smirking.

As she came to a halt, Gracie could almost hear the tires screaming.
“However, this is an excellent airline,” the elderly lady said.

“Certainly, sure,” I suppose, “Gracie said sweetly.”

“I don’t enjoy traveling, but I need to see someone essential.” I haven’t seen him in a long time, and he specifically asked me, so I had to attend, you know? The elderly lady revealed

“Yeah, yeah,” Gracie answered, at a loss for words. Clearly, the elderly woman needed to speak about it. Gracie was aware that some individuals felt better in stressful times if they focused on something else. But she had never been the most chatty person on the planet. She, in fact, never made a good first impression.

“I don’t enjoy travelling for extended periods of time, but I also don’t like connecting flights, so it was this one-stop ticket to Orlando, and three hours is too long.” “Have you ever been on a longer flight?”

“Uhhh, well, I traveled to Europe years ago, so sure,” Gracie said as the aircraft began to move and gain speed. Fortunately, this diverted the elderly woman’s attention for a short while.

Gracie took out her phone and went through her picture album. She couldn’t use the internet since it was on airplane mode for her own safety.

She had clicked on a photo of herself and Mark at JFK months before. He’d been given a great new job opportunity and couldn’t say no. Gracie would be relocating with him in a few months when her current job contract expired, and they were working hard to keep their relationship going despite the distance. But it was difficult.

Swiping through the photographs helped her relax. Then their wedding picture appeared. It was the cutest thing ever. Mark proposed to her on a lovely picnic in Central Park, and she couldn’t imagine marrying anybody more charming.

The aircraft had settled without her knowing, and the elderly lady abruptly poked her shoulder. “What exactly are you looking at?”

“Hmmm,” she began, not wanting to answer the question. Her private life was solely hers. But she didn’t want to offend the elderly lady. Well, this is my fiancé. I’ll be seeing him in Orlando. ”

“Aww, that’s cute. I like seeing young people plan their futures. ” Are you planning to have children?”

Gracie eventually scowled as she heard the question. What made individuals believe it was okay to ask such a sensitive and intimate question? She pondered. She wanted to stop the discussion right now, but instead responded, “Maybe, I’m not sure.”

Of course, there are a lot of things to consider right now when it comes to having children. It’s not how it was when I was younger. Everyone has children once they are married. It was the only option. Inflation and climate change are now influencing this choice. However, if you want my opinion,

I don’t.

You should definitely have these. ” “There’s nothing like parenting children, and then having grandchildren is even better,” the elderly lady added. “So, promise me you’ll consider it.”

Who does this lady think she is to address me in this manner? Do I seem to want to talk about my reproductive options? Gracie thought, and she wanted to say something nasty, but she didn’t. Her quiet, however, was insufficient to discourage the elder lady.

“I hope you’re not one of those professional girls who is solely concerned with her work.” That is not acceptable. A job is wonderful, but family must come first. You’re looking after your spouse and children. “Cooking,” the woman said, as Gracie began to lose patience.

She could put up with a lot, but this explicit lecture about old-school gender norms was too much for her, especially coming from a total stranger.

“Do you believe that women should not be as motivated as men and should instead concentrate on becoming housewives?” Gracie eventually snapped, but she maintained a hushed voice.

“No, no. However, at the end of the day, a career is unimportant. Money changes hands. God always provides. However, you cannot have a nice family later in life. You must get started as soon as possible. And believe me, young girl, once you do, you’ll know that a job is nothing compared to that. ”

Gracie’s forehead vein began to pound. She was certain her face was beet red with rage. “Whatever I decide, it is my decision, and it should be respected.” “My fiancé needs to understand,” she said slowly and deliberately.

Oh, you pish-posh. Most men claim they don’t mind having a career-driven wife, but this is not the case. “Deep down, guys desire a woman to remain at home, care for the house and children, and be their support system in general.”

“That is not my fiancé. He loves me for who I am. If we have children, he may become a househusband! ” She screamed, perhaps a little too loudly.

She was, of course, lying. She and Mark were both ambitious and determined in their jobs, so they worked together. Neither of them would remain at home with these hypothetical children.

“That’s ridiculous!” “You can’t do that!” argued the elder woman, and Gracie’s brows nearly burst off her head.

“What? That isn’t your issue, woman. Please stop talking to me for the remainder of the journey. That type of rhetoric irritates me. It’s not the 1950s anymore. ” Get with the program! ” Gracie reacted, flinching at what she knew were insults to the elder lady, but she’d had enough.

The elderly woman wanted to respond, and she was upset for some inexplicable reason that Gracie couldn’t fathom. But then she began coughing and coughing. It got so bad that Gracie got up and called for the flight attendant, who then made the older woman get up and come with her.

Gracie was concerned about how their battle had affected the older woman’s health, but it wasn’t her fault. She just became bored with the stranger’s lecturing. Still, I hope she’ll be well, she reasoned. She eventually inquired about it with the flight attendant.

“Oh, I seated her in an empty first-class seat.” “She’s alright and asleep now,” the compassionate woman said before returning to her work.

Gracie took a deep breath and felt much better. She now had more space and no one to bother her for the remainder of the ride.

She arrived at MCO on schedule and immediately checked her phone. Mark had left a note for her.

“I’m right outside, waiting for you.” “I also have a surprise for you,” he replied cryptically, but Gracie smiled when he added a smiley-face emoji. He was usually full of surprises, and she couldn’t wait to meet him.

Her luggage took an eternity to open. By the time she spotted her bags, it seemed like practically everyone else on her aircraft had already departed. She was already looking forward to seeing Mark. She ran through the rest of the airport’s routine and out the door to the arrivals area to look for her fiance.

Finally, she saw him, waving his hand and beaming broadly at her. He was the one. His life’s passion Her lovely Mark, whom she was certain would never force her to become a housewife, I have to forget what that elderly woman said.

But Mark was not alone, and Gracie could practically hear the tires screaming as they came to a halt. He was standing close to the plane’s oldest passenger. She placed her hand on the woman’s shoulder and pointed towards Gracie.

Mark’s face lit up with joy. She had to be significant to him. She was unexpected.

Gracie began to walk, as if she were on her way to the ultimate judgment in hell. She couldn’t believe how coincidental this was.

“Gracie! I’d like to introduce you to my grandmother, Barbara Rodkin, who raised me. Gracie was sweating in embarrassment as her fiancé remarked, “Despite the fact that I call her Nana.” She did, however, offer her hand to the old lady.

It’s a pleasure to meet you, Mrs. Rodkin.” “My name is Gracie Burton,” she introduced herself, and the older woman’s eyes furrowed for a moment. Gracie readied herself for the impending reprimand. The air was heavy with tension, but Mark didn’t notice it for some inexplicable reason.

It felt like an eternity, yet Barbara extended her hand in a matter of seconds. “It’s lovely to meet you, dear,” she smiled.

Gracie directed them to his vehicle in the parking lot, and Mark directed them to take the front seat. Throughout the journey, she thought about how she might apologize to Barbara for her comments and for provoking her coughing episode. She found it strange that she had not said anything to Mark.

She was thinking about something else as they came closer to Mark’s house. She was aware that Mark had been raised by his grandmother after his parents passed away when he was ten years old. Barbara, according to the things he told her, had not been a housewife at all. She never had children and never married Mark’s grandfather. Her lesson on the aircraft made no sense. Had she altered her mind as she grew older?

They arrived at Mark’s apartment, and he took their baggage. They remained quiet during the elevator journey and swiftly relaxed into their position.

“Honey, I’m going to take a shower.” “Would you mind entertaining my grandma for a few minutes?” Mark inquired after giving them a tour of the home and serving them beverages.

“Sure,” she responded, too soon nodding.

When Mark walked away, Gracie turned to see Barbara seated on the couch. Her gaze was drawn to the window. She returned her gaze to Gracie, who couldn’t bear it any longer. She had to address the elephant in the room, and there was only one way she could do it.

She approached the elderly lady and fell on her knees, her head bowed in shame. I had no clue you were Mark’s grandma, Mrs. Rodkin.” I’m very sorry! I can’t believe I said it to anybody. I should have listened to what you had to say. And I was the source of your coughing fit. Please pardon me! ” Gracie pleaded.

“Oh, honey, stand up,” the elderly lady urged, startling Gracie, who glanced up. “There is no need for you to apologize.”

“What?”

“I did that on purpose,” Barbara said, laughing as she stroked the sofa. “Please sit with me.”

Gracie sat perplexed on the sofa. “What exactly do you mean by on purpose?”

“I saw you looking at your images on your phone with Mark.” At first, I didn’t know who you were, but then I saw the images and thought… about getting to know you better,” Barbara continued, a mischievous grin on her face.

“Was it a test?”

“No, it wasn’t.” It simply happened that way in the end, “the elder lady stated. “I despise ladies who lack ambition.” I should not judge, yet I do. I was a working woman, even when I had to re-raise a kid in my later years, and I want Mark to marry someone who wants a future for herself, not someone who is dependent on him. And you, sweetie, aced the exam and ticked every box. You are strong-willed, passionate, and assertive. You will not allow people to walk all over you and your desires. That is something I appreciate. That’s fantastic. As a result, I must also apologize for being so rude. Oh, and the coughing episode was unanticipated. ”

Gracie finally giggled as her whole body relaxed. “Oh my goodness. But are you okay? I was concerned, but the flight attendant assured me that you were alright. ”

“No, I’m OK. It’s just a cough. Everything becomes worse as you grow older, and more people worry. But it was insignificant. I didn’t want to say anything, of course. I got upgraded to first class, so I should thank you for that, “Barbara continued, laughing.

The remainder of their visit was wonderful. They never mentioned their first formal encounter with Mark. It was their little secret.

Months later, Gracie relocated permanently to Orlando, and they married. Barbara was happy to walk her grandson down the aisle and watch him get married to a woman she loved.
