How to Ship Food Series? (Part 2)

Yes, they do have ones that you can dispose of that are way heavier, why? You’re shipping’s going to go through the roof. Really thin, basic, disposable pie pan. Bake it up, cool it down. Obviously let it cool. Now, two ways to do this. You can use a pie box, pie box here, that it comes in.

Now if you do that, that’s fine, but here’s how you measure it. This is a nine inch pie pan; this is a nine inch pie. Now, you have to measure the pie. Obviously, it’s nine inches. Don’t buy a nine inch box, buy a ten inch box. It has to be a little bit bigger. You don’t want it to be exactly the same size because it won’t fit in.

So once you have your box with the window you want to take the pie, you obviously want to put it in there. Now this, and then you seal it up. This is a great way to ship a pie. Now, the only thing is, is that it moves around a little bit right? You don’t want that; you want to minimize the movement of the pie in the box.

So don’t just plop it in here, put it in a box, and ship it, because they’re going to have stir fry pie when they get it. Okay now, take it out. I’m going to show you now what we do. Let’s take you over on this side. The magical shrink wrap machine, I love shrink wrap machines. Yes, I did a video about shipping a cake. I did a video about shipping cookies.

They’re all shrink wrapped, why? Because it simply secures the product to the board. Take this. You need to buy a shrink wrap machine. This is a heat sealer. You don’t have to have one this big. This is 16 inches, and you need to have a heating gun. Like I said, I’ll put links down below. You don’t have to go searching all over the internet, I’ll make it easy for you. Okay you got the gun, got that, fantastic.

Now here’s what we’re going to do. And just like I said, wait one hot second. And let me just cut this off really quick and get the shrink wrap, I have my shrink wrap right over here too. There see? Okay. You want to cut that off and you want to seal the edges. What I’m doing right now, is sealing the edges of the shrink wrap so I can put this in here. Then I’m going to show you some magical tricks.

This is the greatest way in the world to ship a pie. Now you have your bag, take a look. You’ve got your shrink wrapped bag, it’s all set. You’re going to put your pie inside the magical bag. Now I’m going to secure it to the sides. All this extra, I’m going to cut that off. Let me seal that off real quick.

Fantastic, before I seal it I’ll show you, you’re going to love this. All right, boom, that is, let me get you in the light here a little bit. See how that is? That is the pie in the shrink wrap. We haven’t shinked it yet. We haven’t heat sealed it yet. So let me heat seal it really quick. You’re going to hear a little noise. Like I said, this is a little different video than what I normally do.

But I want to do a series and this is the first one of how to ship food products. I’m going to show you, you can ship almost anything, pretty much, and I’ll show you the safest way to ship them. I actually handle all of the order shipping in our department. I’ve shipped out over the years probably nearly 150,000 to 200,000 orders.

That’s not an exaggeration. I handle all the shipping stuff. My wife does all the baking and the candy making. I do some of the candy making, but I handle all of the logistics and like office stuff. There’s my office over there. The shipping and office, all that stuff, that’s all me. So here we go, look at this. See that? Look at this: heat sealed, shrink wrapped, all set to go. That’s pretty cool, huh?

So that ain’t going to go anywhere, nowhere. And I’m going to prove it to you, cause I’m going to throw the box across the room. Watch this. Okay, so you got your box, you already shrink wrapped. Now, I told you in the beginning of the video there’s two ways that you can actually do this. I mentioned there’s two ways to do it. So this one is heat sealing to the pan and then putting it in the box.

Now technically you could actually ship it like this if you wanted to. I wouldn’t actually recommend you do that, only because it’s just not that pretty. So if you’re going to put your labels on, some labels and such. You can put your allergen labels, your ingredient labels, whatever it is right, but you put it on there. So you put it inside your box. You’re all set to roll. Now what I do with this, go ahead and seal up, and heat seal wrap the box. I won’t necessarily do that this very second.

I’m going to go ahead and tape it really quick, just for time, but you would shrink wrap the box. Now you have a completely secure, let me show you, don’t go nowhere you gotta watch all the way to the end. So now you have a completely, I just went ahead and taped it up, but now you have a completely sealed box.

So there’s very little movement. Nothing’s really moving around. So sealing it to the pan is giving it extra reinforcement so it doesn’t move around. Now, it is the box time. Now, what you will need for this, and again it will be down in the description section, paper, newsprint shipping paper. It’s called newsprint shipping paper.

You want to use bubble wrap, that’s fine. This is great because you can really get it to sit still and maneuver it in the box. So your pies will not move anywhere. And I’m going to show you when I throw the box. So the other thing is, I don’t buy boxes. I have never bought a box after the first year of being online, being an e-commerce business. I realize I save a lot of money by using free boxes.
