A housekeeper is handed a checklist with 85 duties to do in one hour, otherwise she will be fired

Nothing makes a job more unpleasant than a boss who relishes overworking their employees.

However, everything has a limit, and if you believe you are being used, it may be time to reconsider your stance. Of course, there will be times when you are asked to do something extra for the team, and you will be obliged to do it.

Most of us already have too much on our plates outside of work, but not every worker is willing to speak out to managers for fear of seeming uninspired or lazy.

Furthermore, there are times when a person is unable to change jobs and must instead put up with the circumstances until a better opportunity comes along.

The moral of the story is that job burnout sucks, particularly if you’ve ever been in a scenario like this Reddit user, who was “surprised” by a huge list of duties that needed to be completed in an hour.

Employee released a list of tasks she was assigned to do in one hour by publishing them online.

“My business tells me that if I don’t accomplish all of this in an hour, I’ll be fired,” an unhappy online user complained to Reddit’s r/antiwork group about how her employer had given her one hour to complete three pages of work or risk being fired. In less than a day, the post received 23.2K upvotes and 3.1K comments arguing the subject.

Management threatened to fire her if she did not finish the three pages of requirements.

The cleaning list included specified responsibilities for the foyer, kitchen, living room/dining area, bathroom, bedrooms, and balcony. Among the other chores were a “daily special assignment” and irrelevant paperwork.

Because the first item on the list states “housekeeping supervisor’s checklist,” some Redditors thought that the author of the post was faking the whole scenario, but the lady replied to one of the comments and convinced the community that she was, in fact, a cleaner.

Some members of the community voiced their emotions.

Because there were only roughly 85 activities on the list, several people attempted to lighten the situation by laughing. Others said that the author had a lot of freedom to “express herself” through her work. For example, her first job seemed to give her the option of sweeping, mopping, or vacuuming.

However, u/pandalynn78 was able to sympathize with the OP’s feelings. In a three-story complex, the user said that they were asked to clean eight apartments, wash and dry all personal goods, and clean all shared areas. In an assisted living facility, the user had some experience with housekeeping and laundry.

Furthermore, it was indicated that just mopping and cleaning the floors takes at least thirty minutes, with the duration varying depending on the size of the space. How can someone expect their team to complete such a long list in one hour when taking out the trash takes another 30 minutes?

Someone encouraged the OP to strain herself as little as possible in order to prevent burnout, and that even if management kept their word and let her go, she could still claim unemployment and meet with a lawyer.

People in the comments have plenty of suggestions; one Redditor suggested that she put the management on the spot and ask them to demonstrate to her how all of these chores could be completed in 60 minutes.

The author of the message also stated that she is only paid $12 per hour, implying that she would be paid the same amount for finishing the 3-page task.

Many individuals have worked in hazardous workplaces at some point in their lives. Whether it was a cleaning nightmare, like this user is currently experiencing, or sharing space with colleagues that made life terrible, not everyone is able to maintain their position without fear of losing their job.
