For the second time in succession, Sam West and his daughter Sidney Kimble West earned first place in the professional sports league in the USA Shag Dancing Championships in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, in March 2020.

When we saw their dance, we fell in love. The father, by the way, has the distinction of being the official state dance of South Carolina. Shag dancers move their legs so quickly that they seem to float above the stage, never touching the ground. By 1984, the shag had grown in popularity to the point that Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, started organizing an annual national championship for shag dancers.

The family has, of course, been rehearsing this style of dance for over a year. Her dad, Sam West, has been a shag dancer for most of his life, starting when he was nine years old with his mother. Since then, he has competed in several events in this style of dancing, winning numerous honors, including the professional league and, on numerous occasions, the title of total champion. His wife, Lisa, began her dance career at the age of 27 and went on to achieve tremendous success.

She and her partner won several major championships and accolades, including the American Swing Championship. Nobody could stop them when Lisa met Sam. They have won multiple championships in shag and other swing dances together. Dancing is a way of life for them, not simply a pastime. As a result, after having children, they wanted to instill a love of dancing in them from an early age.
