Do you remember the Pledge of Allegiance going like this? We absolutely do

In this 1969 clip from The Red Skelton Show, Richard Bernard “Red” Skelton, a generally hilarious guy, takes a moment to explore a more serious matter. And, after hearing his somber message, we’re feeling quite patriotic.

From 1951 through 1971, The Red Skelton Show was an award-winning television show that provided Americans with humorous respite. And the program was presented by none other than the legendary Red Skelton.

Most skits included amusing characters such as “Deadeye,” the inept sheriff; shady real-estate salesman “San Fernando Red,” and “Junior, the Mean Widdle Kid,” who was famous for proclaiming “I did it.” However, in this 1969 episode, the program takes on a more solemn tone.

In this skit, Red Skelton gives a powerful monologue with no props or settings, just dressed in a tuxedo and a black felt hat. As he starts to explore the underlying meaning of the Pledge of Allegiance, we are left with a newfound respect for the age-old commitment.

The Pledge of Allegiance to John Wayne
This is something I remember vividly. A lot of people need to hear this and understand what it means.
