A mother of two was thankful to her five-year-old son after seeking assistance after a seizure. The mother and child’s moving tale is told here.
Last year, Salvatore Cicalese of Arizona demonstrated that age is irrelevant when it comes to becoming a hero or, in this instance, saving another person’s life.
The five-year-old kid was acclaimed as a hero for saving his mother’s life while still caring for himself and his two-month-old baby sister.
Everything was great for Kaitlyn Cicalese and her family on the night of May 14, 2021. The mom had put her child to bed and went to take a shower. Sadly, Kaitlyn had a seizure and collapsed to the floor while taking a bath.
The mother of two struck her head on the bathtub and blacked out. Salvatore, fortunately for Kaitlyn, was completely awake and heard the loud commotion. He hurried into the bathroom right away, only to find his mother on the floor, covered in blood.
Salvatore assumed his mother was dying and resolved to protect himself and his sister. So he wrapped the baby in a blanket, unlocked the garage door, and went to their next-door neighbor’s home.

Jessica Penoyer, the neighbor, talked to ABC 15 about what happened that night. The mother recalls how surprised she was when tiny Salvatore showed up at her front door by himself late at night. She went on to say:
“He’s standing there clutching something, which I mistook for a puppy.” No, he answered, my mother died in the shower. “Can you look after us?”

Penoyer’s next thought was to phone 911, and when they came, they discovered Kaitlyn unresponsive in the tub with the water still flowing. She received prompt medical treatment, which facilitated her complete recovery. Nonetheless, the mother owed her life to her son.
Kaitlyn stated that she was beneath the faucet and would have drowned if Salvatore had not intervened. But all the mother-of-two remembered was putting her baby to sleep, taking a bath, and waking up in the hospital.

The Rural Metro Fire Department gave Salvatore a shirt, a patch, a helmet, and a certificate that says he is an honorary firefighter.
Although Kaitlyn recovered completely, Salvatore was always haunted by the events of that night. “Are you going to have another seizure?” he would often ask his mother. or “Are you going to die today?” to which she would always say no.
Kaitlyn was overcome with emotion as she discussed her son’s reaction to the horrible situation. Salvatore, on the other hand, made her proud with his display of strength and bravery. The courage of the little youngster was not unnoticed.
Salvatore was presented with a shirt, a patch, a helmet, and an honorary firefighter certificate by the Rural Metro Fire Department. Shawn Gilleland, who works for the fire department, said that the small child will join the people who helped get Kaitlyn out of the building.
Furthermore, he noted that Kaitlyn and Salvatore’s tale was an excellent example of how parents should educate their children on how to handle situations. Hopefully, this experience has taught and inspired numerous families.
