Music can bring order to chaos, and even a little song may have a significant impact on someone’s life. Years ago, Julian Lennon, son of The Beatles’ world-famous vocalist John Lennon, pledged never to play his father’s song «Imagine» until it was the «end of the world.» But he betrayed his promise when he sang the renowned song in support of Global Citizen’s Stand Up for Ukraine campaign.
«Imagine» appeared on The Beatles’ 1971 album of the same name. Much of the song’s content and lyrics, according to John Lennon, came from his wife, Yoko Ono. It is a song about visualizing a world without borders, religion, consumerism, or war, and a world with peace.
Although he promised to never sing «Imagine» publicly again, Julian opted to do it for a worthwhile purpose.
He was picked to perform the event’s closing performance.
Julian Lennon talked about why he chose to sing the song in the video of his performance.
«…the war in Ukraine is a terrible tragedy.» As a person and an artist, I felt obligated to react in any manner I could.»
Julian Lennon was backed by guitarist Nuno Bettencourt for his performance of the song.
They did a touching cover of John Lennon’s legendary song.
Then he wrote:
«Today, for the first time ever, I sang my father’s song, IMAGINE.» Why now, after all this time? — I’d always claimed that the only time I’d contemplate singing ‘IMAGINE’ would be at the ‘End of the World…’ But also because his words represent our global wish for peace.»
Julian’s lyrics were spot on, and the song really offered a means for the world to be free of all the mess if they could just believe it for a few minutes.
«Because this song takes us to a place where love and unity become our reality, if only for a little minute… The song reflects the hope that we all have for the light at the end of the tunnel…» Julian went on.
Julian Lennon, full name John Charles Julian Lennon, is John Lennon’s son from his first marriage to Cynthia Lennon.
He is an outstanding singer-songwriter, photographer, and philanthropist.
Julian was the inspiration for three Beatles songs: «Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds» (1967), «Hey Jude» (1968), and «Good Night, and Good Luck» (1969). (1968). His musical career began in 1984, and he has already recorded seven albums.
When his parents divorced in November 1968, he was just five years old. John Lennon later remarried and married Yoko Ono, with whom he had another son, Sean Ono Lennon.
