Kaitlin Burge, the mother of a cancer-stricken boy, shared a heartbreaking photo of her son being comforted by his older sister during treatment. That was more than four years ago, and after a long, arduous, and hard-fought fight, little Beckett is finally well and attending school.
We at Bright Side were overjoyed to learn that the boy is cancer-free, and we hope that this story will remind those who are going through difficult circumstances right now that there is always hope.
It was a difficult period for everyone.
Beckett, 2, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia on April 25, 2018. The 15-month-old brothers went from playing at home to sitting in a frigid hospital room together. Aubrey, Beckett’s four-year-old sister, saw her brother struggle to walk and play.
Everyone was affected by the situation, which came as a complete surprise to the family. But, as Kaitlin revealed exclusively to Brightside, they stayed together, relied on one another, and took each day as it came.

Aubrey had a difficult time, according to Kaitlin. Beckett was and continues to be her best friend. She was without her brother for 35 days while he was in the hospital. She had no idea what was going on. All she knew was that something was amiss with her best buddy, her brother.

As one might assume, the entire family’s life was far from easy and straightforward. “I watched my only son go through so much and yet smiled,” Kaitlin said in the caption of the above photo. I saw my lovely Aubrey go through a difficult period in her life and become so self-sufficient. She witnessed her best friend/brother in a position that no sibling should ever have to go through. ”
Beckett kicked cancer in the shins like a true soldier.
The voyage was challenging, with many ups and downs, but Beckett prevailed. Beckett is cancer-free and back in school after two years of pain, suffering, and fighting. “He is feeling wonderful; he is done with therapy; and he is back to school, presently in first grade,” Kaitlin said.

His final treatment was on August 8, 2021, and he now has a completely clean bill of health. Beckett is now six years old, and his seven-year-old sister is always by his side. The siblings maintain an unshakable friendship, which grew stronger during Beckett’s illness.

Keeping in touch through thick and thin

Beckett’s trek was exhausting, but we’re all aware that there are many more people on the same path as him. When we asked Kaitlin for words of encouragement for anyone going through similar difficulties, she said to keep your head up, take things one day at a time, and don’t be afraid to seek help. Remember that this is only one chapter of your life, and you can find the strength to persevere.

Do you believe Aubrey’s unconditional love aided Beckett’s recovery?
