Brian Nguyen, a transgender man who had undergone gender reassignment surgery, made history by becoming the first transgender man to win a Miss America beauty competition.

The United States Court of Appeals reached the conclusion this week that the Miss United States organization cannot be compelled to admit transgender contestants because doing so would prevent the organization from promoting “an ideal picture of American womanhood.”
