Carol Burnett’s Royal Comedy: A Comedy Sketch That Will Make You Laugh Like a Queen

During Season 3, Episode 7, «The Carol Burnett Show» was renamed «The Queen Elizabeth Show.» Carol appears as the Queen, wearing a crown and a big medal-adorned gown and wielding a scepter.

Carol impersonates the Queen by saying, «Thank you and welcome to our show,» in a high-pitched British accent. We’ve got a great one tonight, but first, let’s turn up the lights.»

She then interacts with the audience, and when one man raises his hand, she asks if he has to use the «water closet,» making fun of the restroom. He asks how she likes America, and she replies she loves it and will go back in a few weeks.

«I’m going to New York this spring to address the United Nations and to do a lingerie commercial,» the Queen continues. She smiles gracefully and says it’ll be for the battling men over the water to see.

She greets Prince Philip, played by Harvey Korman, to the stage and asks what he’s been up to, to which he responds, «Absolutely nothing.» Carol complimented him for making time in his hectic schedule to attend.

She asks the audience if they have any questions for the Prince. One man asks, “Is the queen fun at home?” Carol interrupts, “That’s all the time we have for questions and answers.”

Harvey stands with a dumb smile on his face, not breaking character at all. Then, they walk off stage, and Carol pushes Harvey off because he doesn’t know what he is doing. Later in the skit, the cast puts the younger Queen in her own sitcom, and she encounters a Playguy magazine!
