Because of what transpired, Jada Pinkett Smith cried at Will Smith’s ‘terrible’ wedding…

Jada Pinkett Smith, Will Smith’s wife, revealed that she «truly didn’t want to get married.»

In fact, despite Smith’s iconic Oscars smack-down of Chris Rock and the Academy’s decision Friday to ban him from the ceremony for ten years, the «Matrix» actress admitted to «weeping down the freaking aisle» before marrying the «Fresh Prince of Bel-Air» actor on New Year’s Eve in 1997.

«I was under so much stress, you know, being a young actress, being young, and I was just, like, pregnant, and I didn’t know what to do,» Pinkett Smith, 50, recalled in a recently resurrected episode of her Facebook series «Red Table Talk.» «I had no desire to be married.»

In a 2018 clip that has resurfaced amid renewed controversy surrounding her louche «entanglement» with R&B singer August Alsina, Pinkett Smith candidly recalls her mother, Adrienne Banfield-Norris, also known as «Gammy,» forcing her and Smith to marry after she became pregnant with their first son, Jaden, now 23.

«I didn’t want to be married,» Pinkett Smith said, sitting at a circular table with her mother, Smith, 53, and their daughter Willow, 21.

«We only got married because Gammy was crying,» Smith chuckled to Willow.

«It was almost as if Gammy was saying, ‘You have to get married, so let’s speak about the wedding,'» Pinkett Smith said, prompting Banfield-Norris to acknowledge, «I remember feeling very passionately and wanting you guys to get married.»

Pinkett Smith’s mother was barely 18 years old when she fell pregnant with her daughter, and she briefly married her father, Robsol Pinkett Jr.

«I recall wanting you and Will to marry,» Banfield-Norris added, «but I don’t remember your rejection of the idea of marriage.» «I recall being turned down for a wedding but not a marriage.»

Following that, Pinkett Smith claimed she was browbeaten into submitting to Big Day.

«And now Gammy’s gone to Will and cried about ‘I don’t want a wedding,’ and now I’m being pushed to have a wedding,» she said. «All I wanted was for it to just be the two of us on a mountain because I was like, ‘This is serious business,'» she adds.

Will and Jada married in the Gothic-style Cloisters Castle in a Baltimore suburb. Despite the lovely surroundings, both Pinkett Smith and her mother recognized that it was not ideal.

Banfield-Norris admits, «The wedding was dreadful.» «It was a total disaster.» Jada was ill, and she was a pain in my side… She refused to work with us in any way.»

«And I was so upset that I had to have a wedding,» laughed Pinkett Smith. I was so upset that I sobbed my way down the aisle. «I cried the entire time I was walking down the aisle.»

Smith, on the other hand, was delighted on their wedding day, having won his first Academy Award in March for a superb portrayal of Venus and Serena Williams’ father, Richard Williams, 80, in the feature film «King Richard.»

During the show, he stated, «There wasn’t a single day in my life when I didn’t want to be married and have a family.» «I’ve been imagining my family since I was about five years old.»

Despite her visceral opposition to their marriage, Pinkett Smith and Smith eventually agreed that getting married was «the correct move.»

Banfield-Norris also apologized for not respecting her daughter’s wedding misgivings and for being «selfish» in insisting on a grandiose celebration because Pinkett Smith is her only child.

The resurfacing of the «Red Table Talk» recording coincides with the discovery of new information from the couple’s turbulent recent history.

A visibly agitated Smith admonished his wife in an Instagram Live video from 2019 for broadcasting him on media platforms without his permission.

«Don’t just start filming me without asking,» Smith said in response to Pinkett Smith’s inquiry, «Would you say [therapist Esther Perel] has been instrumental in you and I rebuilding our relationship?»
