Sara Conk, 28, works as a trained specialist in therapeutic recreation. She visited Haiti and was able to assist many children there, both mentally and physically.

But then something happened that dramatically changed her life. They brought in a three-month-old baby girl to the medical center where she works. The infant was in grave condition, suffering from a severe form of hydrocephalus that necessitated immediate surgery.

Sara managed to speak with the distressed mother and convinced her to take her daughter back, promising to provide financial support and ensure that Nika’s medical care would always be free. After some time, Sara decided to check on Nika’s well-being and tried contacting her mother, but the calls went unanswered.

In a hurry, she decided to go straight to their house. What she saw there would stay with her for the rest of her life. She discovered the small kid on the floor, surrounded by rubbish and dirt.

Sara’s worst nightmare had come true: the mother had abandoned the sick child. She drove Nika back to the hospital without hesitation. Doctors couldn’t give her a prognosis because her health was serious. Sara and Nika, on the other hand, fought with all their might. The girl underwent a remarkable metamorphosis.

Six months later, Sara became Nika’s legal guardian. Once all the paperwork was in order, the little girl went to her new home.
