People in San Pablo, California, are hailing a police officer as a hero after he assisted in the rescue of a choking newborn.

Officer Gilbert Troche and his family were on their way home from the movies when they noticed a woman parked on the side of the road. They came to a halt to assist the woman since she appeared distressed.

Officer Troche told KTVU, a local news station, that he saw a woman on the side of the road, outside of her car, holding her baby and looking very upset.

Officer Troche knew he had to act quickly when the mom gave him the baby.
