Seven off-duty firemen saved the life of a man on a recent flight by being in the right place at the right moment.
During the flight from Boston, a passenger suddenly began showing signs of a seizure. It was at that moment that seven off-duty firefighters came to the rescue. The individuals mentioned include Chief Christopher Coleman, Capt. George McKinnon, Capt. Josh Langille, Lt. Scott Langille from the North Attleboro Fire Department, Foxborough Firefighter Cory Shepardson, and retired firefighters Jeff Badger and Rich McDonagh.
Chief Christopher Coleman shared an incident where they encountered a passenger who appeared pale and unresponsive. “Once we identified the issue, our training immediately came into play. We didn’t even need to make eye contact, we instinctively knew what needed to be done.”
The firefighters gently placed the man in the aisle. As the situation unfolded, Capt. George McKinnon swiftly initiated CPR while Capt. Josh Langille promptly retrieved the automated external defibrillator (AED). Chief Christopher Coleman assisted by inserting an IV into the man. Fortunately, their hard work yielded positive results and the man’s life was successfully preserved.

Chief Coleman explained that after the patient regained consciousness, they promptly administered an IV and provided fluids, ensuring that he remained conscious throughout the entire flight.
After their courageous acts, the firefighters were honored by their town with letters of commendation upon their return home.
However, Chief Coleman understands that this is precisely what first responders are trained to do. They are consistently well-prepared and always ready to step in whenever necessary.
“A firefighter is never off duty, and this proves it,” shared Chief Coleman. We do it on a daily basis. Whether it’s high up in the sky or down on the streets of North Attleboro. It’s our duty as humans and as professionals.”
It’s incredible how the firefighters were in the right place at the right time to use their skills and save a life. Truly an amazing thing. These brave individuals deserve our utmost admiration and gratitude.
