An elderly fashion enthusiast recently posted a picture of herself rocking a chic sleeveless midi dress. Although the post received a lot of comments, not all of them were positive.
«It’s not the first time this has happened, but this one caught me off guard,» Candace Cima shared with TODAY. It’s high time for people to update their notions about fashion and what’s considered appropriate for different ages.
Cima, a proud grandmother of 11 grandchildren, confidently showcased her stylish ensemble — a brown knit sleeveless dress complemented by a cozy sweater.
Some people praised the pro-aging influencer’s fashion sense, while others voiced their disapproval in the comments.
“From the side and back this dress does nothing for you. Form fitting below the waist is not your friend. One person on Facebook wrote, «Celebrate everything else about your body!»
“The sweater on, not a fan of the dress,” someone else commented.
«That’s not nice at all. Would never wear alone. «Too old to be showing all that skin,» another user had the audacity to write.»Having wrinkled skin at 76 is completely natural, and I have no reason to feel ashamed,» Cima expressed. «Sometimes I feel like asking, ‘Do I need to hide my face as well, just because I have wrinkles there?'»
Cima launched her fashion blog in 2019 after recognizing a gap in the industry for older women.
«I thought it would be fun to talk about how to dress as you get older.» Many women feel pressured to conceal their bodies due to societal expectations passed down through generations. It’s time for us to change our perspective on age. We can let go of these outdated notions in today’s modern world.»
Despite the numerous negative comments, Cima chose to ignore them and instead provided guidance for her latest and younger supporters.
Getting older has its perks. You can now use everything you have learned your whole life. You are now the wisest that you are ever going to be. Embrace it and take pride in it.
