Recently Adopted 2-Month-Old Baby Dies After Being Forgotten for Hours in Hot Car

Authorities are currently investigating the heartbreaking incident involving a 2-month-old baby who was left unattended in a hot car for several hours.

Tragically, Diana Sofia De Los Santos was found unconscious in an SUV parked outside her adoptive parents’ residence on June 13, 2024 in Santee, San Diego.

According to reports, the young girl was discovered by a family member after being in the vehicle for several hours in 63F weather. Unfortunately, despite the individual’s call to 911, Diana was pronounced dead after being rushed to the hospital.

According to the Daily Mail, Romer and Jayson De Los Santos recently adopted a 2-month-old baby.

The couple brought Diana home on April 11 after making a trip to Arizona to visit her in the hospital. Meanwhile, according to other sources, the two fathers, who are already parents to a 2-year-old boy, began their journey to become parents for the second time in November of last year.

According to reports, the couple shared the following statement on their adoption website profile:

We are excited to welcome another incredible child into our hearts and home. We hope our children have a childhood filled with cherished memories of beach play, sandcastle building, making new friends, biking to the park, embarking on Hawaiian cruises, and learning the joys of fostering kittens.

According to a report by The Daily Mail, detectives from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding Diana being left in the SUV and the reasons behind her being forgotten there. No charges have been filed at the time of writing.

Romer, a senior consultant at Jama Software, and Jayson, who has taken on the role of a stay-at-home dad since the couple adopted their son, have shared a partnership for more than two decades.

According to the heartbreaking data compiled by No Heat Stroke, an average of 37 children in the United States have tragically lost their lives each year since 1998 due to being left in hot cars.

According to California law, individuals can be fined $100 if they leave a child under six in a car under conditions that may pose a significant risk to the child’s health or safety.

According to the authorities, it is crucial to never leave your child unattended in a car, even for a brief moment, while you quickly go into a store or run an errand.

Summer routines can change unexpectedly. Sometimes, even the most attentive parents can unintentionally overlook a quiet or sleeping child in the backseat of a car.

Rest in peace, baby Diana.
