Life has a way of surprising us, and Evie recently found herself facing one of those unexpected challenges. Following her heartbreaking loss, she found it unbearable to keep her stillborn baby’s clothes, and thus requested her husband to throw away them. Evie’s next move caught everyone off guard, as she found herself taking an unexpected step in the midst of her grief. Even though things eventually turned out well, a year later she still vividly recalls every detail and is eager to share her experience with us.
«Two weeks before my due date, I lost the baby. I convinced my husband to part ways with all the baby clothes as they were a constant source of emotional distress for me.
After a month had passed, I couldn’t believe my eyes when I spotted my sister-in-law’s newborn sporting the same onesie that I had bought for my own unborn child.
My husband said, «At least I wanted my niece to have it.» I remained quiet and refrained from responding. After everyone had gathered in the living room, I carefully slipped into the baby’s room. I carefully removed her onesie and retrieved all the clothes that belonged to my child from the closet. After ensuring she was snugly wrapped in a cozy blanket, I quietly left the room.
The following day, my mother-in-law reached out to my husband to express her frustration. According to her, I was jealous and having no right to handle the baby’s clothing. According to my husband, what I did was «unforgivable».
It’s been a whole year since that incident, and I must say, our relationship has come a long way.
A few months ago, I had a baby girl. I’m glad my husband didn’t throw away the clothes because my new baby girl is now wearing them.
But it’s still hard to shake off the memories of the mistreatment I endured while simply trying to honor the memory of my unborn baby. Was I wrong?»
