Ingredients:

  • Baking dish: 9×13 inches
  • All-purpose flour: ~2 ¾ cups (330 g)
  • Granulated sugar: ¾ cup (150 g)
  • Unsalted butter: ⅔ cup (150 g), softened
  • Eggs: 3 large
  • Apples: 4 large (about 1.3 pounds or 600 g)
  • Baking powder: 2 teaspoons
  • Vanilla extract: 1 teaspoon (or 8 g vanilla sugar)
  • Salt: to taste

Topping:

  • All-purpose flour: ⅓ cup (50 g)
  • Granulated sugar: ¼ cup (50 g)
  • Unsalted butter: 3 tablespoons (40 g)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).
  2. Start by making the crumble topping. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and softened butter. Mix for about 30 seconds until crumbly. Place in the refrigerator to chill.
  3. In another bowl, beat the softened butter with sugar, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt using a mixer for about 3-4 minutes until the mixture lightens and increases in volume.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing for about a minute after each addition.
  5. Gradually add the sifted flour and baking powder, mixing until combined to form a smooth batter.
  6. For the filling, peel and chop the apples into small pieces. You can add cinnamon if desired.
  7. Gently fold the apples into the batter until evenly distributed.
  8. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly with a spatula.
  9. Sprinkle the chilled crumble topping over the batter.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for about 40 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
