Not everyone has time (or patience) to sit and breathe for 20 minutes. Here are five ways to lower stress fast—without a meditation cushion.

1. Try the 5-4-3-2-1 Method
Look around. Name 5 things you see, 4 you feel, 3 you hear, 2 you smell, and 1 you taste. It grounds your mind in seconds.

2. Do a “Brain Dump” Before Bed
Write everything on your mind—no structure, no grammar. Get it all out. You’ll sleep lighter and wake up clearer.

3. Chew Gum or Eat a Crunchy Snack
The chewing motion relaxes jaw tension and can lower cortisol. (Opt for something healthy.)

4. Laugh on Purpose
