In a small Iowa town, a golden retriever named Max has become a local legend. Every morning, he sneaks onto the school bus—not to ride it, but to greet a special little girl.
That girl is Ella, 7, who has autism and struggles with separation anxiety. Max began following her one day, sensing her stress. Now, he walks her to the bus daily and refuses to leave until she waves goodbye.
The bus driver doesn’t mind. “He’s her guardian angel,” she says.
The school even made Max an honorary student with a badge. “He’s not just a dog,” Ella’s mom said. “He’s her calm, her courage.”
