‘Aladdin’ Robin Williams Bloopers Are Hilarious

If you adore Robin Williams, as many do, you are probably aware that he provided the voice of the beloved character of the Genie in the classic Disney film Aladdin.

But there’s a lot more to this animated character and its relationship to Williams than you might think!

As the Disney producers, writers, and behind-the-scenes team began to plan how the film would look and sound, one voice immediately came to mind: Robin Williams.

They knew they wanted Genie to be loud, hilarious, warmhearted, and able to make a lot of impressions, essentially transforming himself into a variety of famous people and characters with just his voice.

And, at the time, Williams was a hugely popular stand-up comedian doing just that! The plan was to cast a big name as well as a professional who could inject some levity into the script.

Even though everyone knew they wanted Robin Williams on the team, the comedian had to be persuaded. So they created the soon-to-be character of the Genie, who would act out Robin’s stand-up routines, which he adored!

The rest, as they say, is history! However, while many people consider Robin William’s role as the Genie in Aladdin to be one of his most successful, many are unaware that he improvised the majority of the lines.

In fact, in addition to the dialogue that was used in the final cut of the film, Williams created 16 hours of unused comedic gold during the recording process.

He said several of the same lines in dozens of different voices, as different characters, and with small or large inflections adjusted to fit the scene perfectly.

Many outtakes from Williams’ Genie recording have been released, much to the delight of fans worldwide.

And in the video, we can hear Williams trying out different voices and characters, as well as lines that didn’t make the final cut.

While some of Williams’ jokes were simply too inappropriate for a children’s film, they simply couldn’t use all of the great material he created for the character.

Of course, when you watch Aladdin again, you can hear Robin Williams’ voice and comedic genius shine through the character of the Genie.

However, after watching this outtakes video, you can see how much the Genie is Robin Williams himself!

And how much time and effort the great comedian put into creating this character, as well as why the Genie is one of the best in Disney history.
