Every day, the police receive a wide range of emergency calls, some of which have the potential to profoundly alter the lives of those on the other end of the phone.

Frank, a 101-year-old man, was concentrating at the dinner table on the cake he had just bought from the supermarket because it looked so good.

Despite being alone, he was determined to have a good time on his birthday.

But then he felt plagued with feelings of loneliness. He didn’t want to trouble any of his busy neighbors by inviting them to visit, especially since all of his pals had died in recent years.

When he saw his phone lying there, he chose to call 911 rather than blow out some birthday candles as he had planned.

When the emergency dispatcher asked about the nature of his emergency, Frank revealed his identity and the news that he was turning 101.

I’m alone today, but not because I want to be. Please join me in celebrating my birthday.

He overheard the dispatcher saying, «I know it’s not really an emergency, but I couldn’t think of anyone else.»

When a fresh voice answered the phone, it introduced itself as Officer Woods and informed the caller that she and a colleague would be paying him a visit soon.

Frank was concerned about time running out and how he didn’t want to be alone on what might be his last major birthday while waiting to see if any police officers showed up at his residence on his 101st birthday.
