Melissa Gilbert Left Los Angeles for a Simple Cottage Life in the Catskills

It’s absolutely fascinating to see child actors grow up right in front of us. We enthusiastically support them as they rise to stardom, experiencing their achievements as if they were our own. Melissa Gilbert is a remarkable talent, known for her portrayal of the beloved character Laura Ingalls in the iconic TV show Little House on the Prairie.

Melissa was born on May 8, 1964, in Los Angeles, California. Her birth parents, who already had three kids from other marriages, gave her up for adoption.

Fortunately, she discovered a warm and caring family with her adoptive parents, actor Paul Gilbert and actress/dancer Barbara Crane. Melissa’s passion for the entertainment industry blossomed during her time with them.

Prior to her breakthrough in Little House on the Prairie, Melissa had already made appearances in commercials and had small roles in films such as The Diary of Anne Frank and The Miracle Worker. As she juggled her commitments to the show, she also found time to pursue other acting opportunities.

Over the past few years, she has been involved in various projects, including the short film One Smart Fellow, as well as Secret and Lies and The Night Shift. Melissa is a skilled writer who has documented her experiences in the entertainment industry in her autobiography, Prairie Tale: A Memoir.

As Melissa looks back on her experience filming Little House on the Prairie, she can’t help but feel a wave of nostalgia for the enjoyable moments she shared with the rest of the cast and crew. Living on a farm was incredibly thrilling for the young girl, and she quickly grew fond of the rural lifestyle.

Interestingly enough, Melissa and her husband, actor-director Timothy Busfield, chose to leave Michigan and establish themselves in a new home in New York. They also decided to buy a hunting cabin and explore the idea of raising chickens and building a barn for goats and horses. Unfortunately, their plans were disrupted by the pandemic, but they still wholeheartedly embrace their passion for rural living.

Today, Melissa and her husband savor their idyllic days in their charming cabin nestled in the Catskills. They tackled the necessary renovations with determination, fully committed to turning the place into a cozy home. They began by removing the remnants left behind by the previous owners, and then addressed problems such as rodent infestation and mildew. They gave the cabinets a fresh look, introduced vibrant red vinyl chairs, and now enjoy the cozy warmth of a wood fire in their home.

Living in the Catskills, Melissa and Timothy have embraced the fulfilling endeavor of cultivating their own fruits and vegetables. Melissa embraces the tranquility of her home and approaches each task with a cheerful attitude. After a long day, she takes pleasure in savoring a cup of tea, relishing the feeling of fulfillment that arises from embracing a simple and harmonious lifestyle.

With her unforgettable portrayals and a fulfilling existence in the Catskills, Melissa Gilbert never fails to inspire and captivate her audience.

Her transition from the glitz and glamour of Hollywood to a serene cottage life is a powerful example of the happiness and fulfillment that come from embracing the peace and natural beauty that surround us. Let’s spread her inspiring story to our friends and family on Facebook!
