What Really Happened at CAA’s Star-Studded Party: Jon Hamm, Miley Cyrus, and a Wild Night in Chelsea

The Crane Club felt like the perfect spot for a Don Draper-style evening—and it turned into an unofficial Mad Men reunion on Friday night in Chelsea.

Jon Hamm, 54, star of the iconic series, made a direct line for Mad Men creator Matt Weiner, 59, after spotting him deep in conversation with hospitality mogul Jeff Klein of San Vicente Bungalows and producer John Goldwyn during CAA’s glamorous New York celebration ahead of the Tony Awards.

Dressed sharply in a suit, Hamm—riding the success of his latest project Your Friends & Neighbors—attended the stylish gathering with his wife, actress Anna Osceola.

Elsewhere at the party, Miley Cyrus, 32, brought some playful energy by borrowing a photographer’s camera and snapping photos herself. Meanwhile, The Whale actor Brendan Fraser held court in a cozy back corner booth.

Cyrus, who signed with CAA in 2023, also danced to a DJ set by Daisy O’Dell. She wasn’t the only star in motion—Baby Driver actor Ansel Elgort was deep in discussion with Kraven the Hunter director J.C. Chandor. The star-studded guest list included Fleabag’s Andrew Scott, Benj Pasek, Justin Paul, Andrea Riseborough, Daniel Dae Kim, Patrick Wilson, Leslie Odom Jr., Keegan-Michael Key, Mamie Gummer, Evan Ross Katz, Marlo Thomas, and Matt Friend, among others.

CAA’s influential theater head Joe Machota hosted the event, which was filled with Broadway’s brightest. Producer Bill Damaschke was seen chatting with screen legend Marlo Thomas, while Tony Award-winner Kenny Leon lit up the dancefloor with Broadway sensation Adrienne Warren.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Hamm reflected on how being a relatively unknown actor at the time helped him land the role of Don Draper. “The idea was that no one should know who this guy is,” he said. “If you cast someone like Rob Lowe, it becomes the Rob Lowe show. That actually worked in my favor.”

Also spotted at the event were Kevin Lin, David Henry Hwang, Daniel Dae Kim, and Leigh Silverman.

Looking ahead, the 78th Annual Tony Awards will take place Sunday at the iconic Radio City Music Hall and will be broadcast live on CBS and streamed via Paramount+.

CAA also recently added another big name to its roster: Wicked composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz, following the success of the movie adaptation—the highest-grossing film ever based on a Broadway musical.
