The family built this prefabricated storm shelter, which ended up saving their lives

A storm shelter saved the lives of a Breman, Kentucky family.

Jordan Evans was out of town with his son Gage when a big storm slammed western Kentucky. According to Jordan, the area resembled a battle zone.

But the storm was heading straight for the rest of the family. The house did not have a cellar or anything underground where they could hide, but there was a storm safety net next door that was 10 feet deep and 12 feet wide.

Gage’s stepfather, Justin Pointer, guided all eight members of the family and their two dogs into the little shelter until the tornado passed them.

«The lid began shaking very severely, and we had to hold it down,» Justin recounted.

The refuge was cramped and unpleasant, but they made it out alive. As the storm caused damage to their house, the space offered them shelter.

Justin’s father had erected the shelter around a decade before. They couldn’t recall how much it had cost to construct, but all that mattered now was that they were all secure.

Until the night of December 19, the shelter had never been utilized.
«He said he’d pay a hundred thousand times more right now for it,» Justin said.

Kentucky bore the worst of the tornado’s devastation, leaving hundreds of people missing. The site seems to be a ghost town, a relic of a conflict. It’s easy to lose hope, but one guy decided to restore optimism to the little community of Mayfield.

Jim Finch traveled around in his vehicle with a large grill and ready-to-cook food to help feed the storm victims in the neighborhood.

Jim drove around for 30 minutes with hamburgers, sausage, eggs, and chicken in his pickup. He also stopped in the center of town when a journalist approached him and inquired about his nice act.

«I know they don’t have any power, so that implies they don’t have any electricity, no restaurants, no running water,» he stated. «Come prepared with food and drink.»

He was even approached and asked whether he owned a restaurant. «It simply needed to be done,» Finch said, shaking his head.

Our infrastructure is in such bad shape. We don’t have any flowing water. Our water tower was destroyed. Our wastewater administration was lost, and the city now has no natural gas. So we’re out of options there. So for many of our people, survival is all that matters at this moment. »

They have the ability and will rebuild. It will take time, persistence, and a whole lot of effort.
