Graduation is a momentous occasion for anybody. It is, nevertheless, quite remarkable to watch an 88-year-old grandfather graduate from college alongside his 23-year-old granddaughter.

It is never too late to realize your ambitions. Since the 1950s, this old guy has been attempting to complete his degree. He’s been in and out of schools, and «it’s been one of his life ambitions and dreams.»

Rene Neira, on the other hand, chose a different course, fell in love, married, and began a family. He could no longer complete his studies. The grandfather and granddaughter team enrolled at the University of Texas-San Antonio in 2017.

«There were times when we’d eat lunch together, go to the library together, and just work quietly side by side,» Melanie Salazar, Renee’s granddaughter, and schoolmate say.

They received their diplomas last month. Melanie pulled her grandfather’s wheelchair as they took the stage together. Michael earned a degree in communications, while Renee earned an honors degree in economics.
