Why Kate Middleton Chose to Share Cancer News Alone, Without Prince William by Her Side — What We Know

Kate Middleton made the decision to disclose her cancer diagnosis without Prince William by her side.

In a recent video message, the 42-year-old Princess of Wales candidly discussed her ongoing cancer battle. She shared that she’s presently undergoing treatment following abdominal surgery in January. The princess chose to address the matter alone, prompting questions about her husband’s absence.
A palace source revealed that Kate personally wished to speak about her health. According to an insider, she stressed that her husband has been a constant pillar of support throughout.

«William’s admiration for his wife knows no bounds, as he continues to marvel at her unwavering courage and unwavering strength, not only during this week but ever since her surgery in January,» the source reveals. «In this moment, his top priority is to safeguard his wife’s privacy during her recovery and shield his children from the natural curiosity surrounding the news.»

In her self-written speech, the royal made multiple references to Prince William and their children — Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. However, she believed it was important to deliver the speech on her own terms and at the appropriate moment.

«After receiving the news, both she and the prince required some time to process it. Additionally, she needed to allow herself sufficient time to recover from the surgery, as well as to inform the children about the situation.» The palace source explains that this was the main motivation behind it.

Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5, had already begun their Easter holiday when the palace shared Kate’s pre-recorded video revealing the diagnosis. This was done to ensure that the family could have some much-needed private time together in the upcoming weeks.

«William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family,» Princess Kate said in the two-minute address.

«As you can imagine, this has taken time,» she continued. «It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment. But, most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte, and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be okay. As I have said to them; I am well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal; in my mind, body, and spirits.»

«We hope that you will understand that, as a family, we now need some time, space and privacy while I complete my treatment,» she added toward the close of the video.

Princess Kate took it upon herself to provide firsthand updates on her health, as her husband and children continue to stand by her side unwaveringly. This past weekend, the Wales family made a departure from tradition by choosing not to attend the royal family’s usual Easter service at St. George’s Chapel. Instead, they opted to enjoy a peaceful weekend together in the coziness of their own home.

Prince William has decided to take a break from his royal duties until late April when his children, George, Charlotte, and Louis, return to school at Lambrook School. This is a conscious choice made by the parents to prioritize spending time with their children during school breaks.

«According to a close friend of the couple, their children are the focal point of their lives.» Another friend further remarks, «The remarkable resilience of children serves as a source of inspiration.
