Despite the fact that it won’t be released until next year, the live-action Barbie film remains a popular topic. Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, who play Barbie and Ken in the film, set the internet on fire this summer when they were photographed filming a scene in Venice Beach, California. The couple couldn’t help but draw attention with their matching fluorescent ’80s costumes and brighter-than-the-sun throwback roller skates.
While the public celebrated the Barbie sneak peek, Robbie has now admitted that the «leaked» scene was a humiliating experience for her and Gosling. On The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon in New York on September 19, the actor said, «I can’t tell you how ashamed we were.» We appeared to be laughing and having a good time, but we were dying on the inside. » «I was thinking, ‘This is the most humiliating moment of my life,'» she continued.
Robbie said that she had no idea the filming would generate such a stir, saying, «We thought there would be a little bit of attention and perhaps some images would get out there, but not as much as it did.» It was like… insane. It felt like there were hundreds of people watching.
Aside from their mortification, Robbie and Gosling have a lot to be thankful for in the film, as they have a fantastic supporting cast. Ncuti Gatwa, the new Doctor Who, joins America Ferrera, Simu Liu, Emma Mackey from Sex Education, and others in the highly anticipated title, which will be released on July 21, 2023.
Earlier this year, Mackey discussed the film’s preparations, saying, «Right from the start, we organized a sleepover for the Barbies, which would involve playing games with Scott [Evans] and Ncuti [Gatwa].»
