One million and one reasons exist for someone to audition for one of the many talent programs. Sure, they all want to prove that they have what it takes to win, but each competitor has a unique motive or support system that pushes them to go the additional mile.

For some, it is a parent; for others, it is their own self-esteem; and for yet others, it is a kid.

Joseph Whelan, a 26-year-old tool salesman, has been in bands for many years. He’s also the father of a cute four-year-old child.

Joseph adores his son and wishes to do all he can for him, to be the greatest role model he can be, and to ensure that he develops into a happy and well-rounded young man. However, Joseph no longer lives with him because he and his son’s mother divorced. It truly tore at his heart.

His X-Factor audition is his chance to teach his kid that he can grow up to be whatever he wants to be if he works hard enough.

Despite his strong frame and tattoos, he was a little shy when he came onto the stage. When it came to cheering him on, the females in the audience couldn’t stop themselves.

He gobbled it right up!

When he begins to sing, the judges are taken aback by the sound that comes out of his lips. That gruff, strong rock & roll voice! This was definitely a shock in comparison to his previous nice and slightly timid personality!

There isn’t a single person in the room who didn’t like this performance. However, I believe the biggest fan remained backstage the entire time.

When the camera pans to Joseph’s son, who is dancing along to the music like the happiest child in the world, your heart melts.

But wait for the cutest moment: after the song, his son runs up onto the stage to compliment his father on a job well done! Joseph takes him up into his arms, and the large, hefty guy begins to cry.

Even though he didn’t win, Joseph went back to X-Factor a year later and tried out again. This time, he sang a Bon Jovi song beautifully.

He’s out here trying to make things better for his family. Later in the season, as the judges deliver their judgment on Joseph’s performance of Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls, he bursts into tears. We could listen to this handsome father’s voice all day!
