Brian Nguyen, a transgender man who has had gender reassignment surgery, became the first transgender man to win a Miss America beauty competition.

According to the newspaper, «he won the Miss Greater Derry title.»

The pageant winner receives the Miss Greater Derry Scholarship.

«My name is Brian Nguyen, and I’m 19 years old. I’m a Business Administration major in my first year at Nashua Community College.» «I am honored to be the first transgender woman to win the local Miss America title,» Nguyen wrote on her blog.

Brian’s accomplishment elicited a wide range of reactions from social media users.

«This is how misogyny actually manifests itself,» she says. «Yes, because men want to devalue us, the Miss America competition will no longer be about women,» he said on social media. Outraged women criticized him, stating, «He didn’t even make a gorgeous girl.»

The U.S. Court of Appeals decided this week that transgender contestants cannot be forced to compete in Miss United States because doing so would prevent the organization from promoting “an ideal vision of American womanhood.”
