More than 150 years after the 13th Amendment ended slavery in the United States, most Americans believe slavery’s legacy continues to have an influence on black people in American society today.
According to a Pew Research Center poll, four out of ten individuals believe the country has not made enough progress toward racial equality, and there is doubt, particularly among blacks, that black people will ever have equal rights with whites.
However, racial disparity among young children is uncommon. Regardless of skin tone, children have an inherent ability to form long-lasting connections. One popular video shows two toddler best friends exchanging hugs on the pavement.
This reveals that children are taught about racial equality and inequity. It is handed on to the next generation. Otherwise, there would be no difference since, well, having a difference makes no sense. We are all members of the same species.
An image expressing similar sentiments is now going viral for all the right reasons.
The child’s mother wrote an inspiring text about it, and it makes perfect sense:
“I’m not sure who this person is, but if you know her, tell her she’s amazing.” Isaiah approached her during our final home game two weeks ago. He sat on her lap and they conversed as if they knew one another. It was only around 20 minutes long. She did, however, leave shortly after halftime to meet up with her daughter.
Now fast forward to tonight… Isaiah saw her not long after we sat down at the game. He approached her when she waved at him. I assumed their interaction would be the same as the last time, but I was mistaken. Isaiah approached her smiling, got onto her lap, and rested his head on her shoulder. She greeted him enthusiastically. This lady rocked and rubbed Isaiah to sleep as if she had just given birth to him. It was the most delicious!
We inquired if she wanted us to get him, but she insisted that she (and he) were OK!! Isaiah and this lady had never met before, except for 20 minutes during a game two weeks earlier. I apologized to her tonight and said that I had no idea why he continued to annoy her. She said it was no problem, and she wouldn’t say it again. She introduced him as her new acquaintance. She went on to remark that she only has one child, who is 15 years old, and that times like these are precious!!!
With all of the racial tensions out there, I’m delighted to see photos like this because it shows that race doesn’t matter to a lot of people. It absolutely does not! Arguing over little matters causes us to overlook the basic pleasures of life. I’m sorry I didn’t get her name, but I’ll remember it for the next game because I’m sure Isaiah will find his way back to her. I adore her and have never met her!
We finally discovered who she is. Mrs. Angela is her name. She’s such a lovely person, you guys! It’s incredible how God brings people together for whatever purpose!
This is her response after discovering I had shared this photo for her:
“All praise, glory, and credit to God!” I was overcome with emotion when I read the post Star Balloon-Bradley published today. Everyone’s warm remarks have made me feel humble. Isaiah is really cute! I pray that people will see Jesus in all of this and realize His love is unfathomable, since that is how I want to love and live my life. I’m not worthy, but he certainly is! ” -Angela
