Margot Robbie is opening up about how she feels about potentially handing her two-toned pigtails to Lady Gaga, who is said to be heading to the dark side as a new version of Harley Quinn. In 2016’s Suicide Squad, Robbie played the famed mischief-maker Harley Quinn. Her portrayal of the fan-favorite heroine was so accurate that she reprised the role in two more films, Birds of Prey (2020) and The Suicide Squad (2021), but she’s now ready to hand the baton to the next Harley. With all evidence pointing to Lady Gaga as Robbie’s replacement, the Suicide Squad actress opened up about Lady Gaga possibly playing Harley Quinn in the next Joker sequel.
In early August, speculation about Gaga portraying Harley went into overdrive. Lady Gaga announced on Instagram and Twitter on August 4 that she would be joining the cast of the second Joker flick. Even though her role in the movie hasn’t been confirmed yet, most people think she will play Harley Quinn, the Joker’s psychiatrist-turned-partner-in-crime.
Margot Robbie discussed a new take on the legendary character in an interview with MTV on October 6. Robbie was questioned by interviewer Josh Horowitz about her thoughts on reports that Gaga might be the new Harley Quinn, and she was ecstatic. «It makes me so pleased because I’ve stated from the beginning that all I wanted was for Harley Quinn to be one of those roles that gets transferred from great actor to great actor like Macbeth or Batman,» Robbie said.
«It’s such an honor to have developed a foundation solid enough that Harley can now be one of those roles that other actors get to try out for,» Robbie said of having the part handed on to another excellent actor. And I believe she’ll achieve amazing things with it. »
In recent years, Gaga has added acting to her list of endless talents, with standout performances in American Horror Story, A Star Is Born, and House of Gucci. Given the range of skills needed to play so many different characters, it’s clear that the superstar will bring something very exciting to a new version of Harley.
