“I think it’s kind of uncommon to watch a father of Asian origin loosen up, let go, and just love his American child’s music and culture,” the bride said of the video, which has received over 40 million views.
A bride and her father have danced their way into the hearts of the internet after a video of their wedding performance went viral.
Brittany Revell and her father, Kelly, are dressed in sneakers and formal clothes as they dance to the song “Teach Me How to Dougie” by Cali Swag District, which has received over 40 million views on TikTok.
Brittany, 30, of San Diego, claimed the dance was part of their “dance through the decades” routine, which also featured the Tootsie Roll, hammer dance, and Carlton.
“Weddings are a really unique event because you have people from all over the world in one place celebrating the love of someone they care about,” she says. Brittany and her father, 63, were confident that the audience would enjoy watching the old dancing movements.
The video was also well received by online viewers, with many praising Kelly’s movements. “He grasped the homework,” one TikTok user stated. “He definitely is the primary character,” said another.
“I think it’s quite unusual to witness a father of Asian ancestry open up, let go, and just love his American child’s music and culture,” Brittany added.
She said that this was not the first time the two had gone viral for doing the Dougie. They shared a video in 2020 that received over 18 million views and served as inspiration for her father-daughter dance.
During the epidemic, Brittany, a physical therapist, and her father, a retired accountant, began producing TikToks together.
Brittany, who grew up dancing, has made it one of her New Year’s pledges to dance more. “I ended up downloading TikTok to perform some of the dancing challenges for fun,” she explained, “and for one of the difficulties, I required a partner.”
She stated that she enlisted her father’s assistance because she was living with her parents at the time and that despite his lack of dancing skills, they had a lot of fun filming their films, which drew them even closer.
“I believe we have similar characteristics, but I also feel like I’ve been able to bring him out of his comfort zone a little bit more,” she added. “I feel like he’s watched me develop as I’ve grown older, but now I feel like I’m able to see him grow a little bit too.”
Brittany expressed gratitude for her close bond with her father and the videos they created together.
Some of the remarks are truly heartwarming when I read them. “Some individuals have lost their fathers or have a bad connection with their fathers, and they tell us how encouraging our relationship is for them to be better with their future children,” she explained. “I believe that is what is most important to us. We are able to reach a large demographic that we would not have been able to reach without the internet. I simply hope that we can continue to make people smile and brighten their days, even if just for 30 seconds. ”
